As a leader in sports performance training and speed development, AJ Basso brings a unique blend of scientific rigor, practical application, and a proven track record of success at all levels of athletic competition. His expertise is built upon a foundation of advanced academic credentials, including a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of North Florida and a M.S. in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Integrative Strength and Conditioning Science from the University of Florida. He started his college career as a NCAA Division I football linebacker for Jacksonville University. He holds both the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the prestigious Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) designations from the NSCA – the latter achieved as part of the inaugural cohort. As a co-founder and co-owner of CORTX, Mr. Basso’s approach is deeply rooted in the integration of foundational strength and conditioning principles, cutting-edge sports science, and extensive experience working with athletes from youth to the professional ranks. He specializes in developing comprehensive training systems, with a particular emphasis on game speed enhancement, encompassing acceleration, max velocity, change of direction, and curvilinear movement, all tailored to the specific demands of each sport and individual athlete.
Previously, as the Lead Sports Performance Coach at Tork Sports Performance from 2018-2024, Mr. Basso spearheaded the design and implementation of all training systems. Currently, he leads many of the training systems for the MLB, NFL, and NFL draft prep athletes at CORTX, with a continued emphasis on game speed development. In addition, he directs sports performance for athletes in the NCAA, MiLB, MLB, and NFL, as well as high school and youth athletes. His methodology involves a meticulous, data-driven process that includes force-velocity profiling, orthopedic screening, and a reverse-engineering approach to program design. This ensures that each athlete’s training is precisely tailored to address their individual needs and optimize their movement literacy, mobility, stability, strength, power, and speed. A passionate advocate for the integration of sports science in training, Mr. Basso leverages technologies like velocity-based training (VBT) and implements autoregulatory strategies to maximize adaptation and performance outcomes. His commitment to continuous learning and innovation, combined with a results-oriented approach, positions him to deliver unparalleled value to organizations seeking to elevate their athletes’ performance to the highest levels. AJ Basso is passionate about partnering with forward-thinking organizations dedicated to achieving excellence in athlete development and performance.
