Motion Capture/Biomechanics

With the help of Biometrek and Chris Hess we offer full access to markerless motion capture powered by Qualysis, Theia, and Visual 3D. This motion capture allows the recording of the throwing motion at 1,500+ frames per second. Coupling this 3D capture with our long standing biomechanics and applied biomechanics experience, we are able to detail specific inefficiencies, limitations, or exceptional areas. Having this powerful data is only as helpful as the team who develops an approach to implement specific programs to improve the athlete’s body, strength/power, or movement/skill profile. At CORTX the MoCap helps inform both training, body work, and on-field throwing sessions to best optimize skill development and enhance training effectiveness. 

Performance Programming

Our lift and performance design has helped produce multiple NFL quarterbacks including NFL 1st overall pick, Caleb Williams; NFL 4th overall pick and NFL combine record-setter, Anthony Richardson; and NFL superstar, Brock Purdy. Our training system is fully individualized and based on detailed initial assessment profiles for the athlete while being continually informed by data tracking each week. The performance design includes all aspects of performance: mobility, motor control, neural priming, plyometric reactivity, strength/power/speed development, physical movement quality, transferable movement skill development, correctives, and recovery.

Game Speed / Combine Speed Development

Our Draft Prep speed systems are crafted to elevate not only your Combine measurables but also to equip you for the rigors of an NFL Quarterback. Each athlete will receive a tailored plan designed to optimize their Combine performance outcomes. Under the expert guidance of our staff, who facilitated Anthony Richardson’s record-setting performance at the NFL Combine, athletes will undergo comprehensive Combine skill development. Beyond enhancing Combine skills, our game speed programming will refine in-the-pocket agility and explosiveness, ensuring readiness to evade defensive players and enhance acceleration and change-of-direction abilities within the pocket.

Arm Care & Throwing Performance

Custom arm care plans: that are undulated in conjunction with throwing volumes and intensity. We implement a phasic arm care system with each day having a custom approach to specific tissue, tendon, or neural focus. This is not the average band series, but instead a comprehensive approach to training the rotator cuff, peri-scapular muscles, and torso/hips in a performance oriented manner.

Plyometric arm development: Customized pre-throw routines based on constraint based learning theories of skill acquisition, skill development, and motor learning. We use plyo drills based specifically to the rotational or speed demands of the quarterback, as well as drills tailored to improving the movement patterns recognized on the assessment, motion capture, and throwing sessions. 

Medical, Rehab

Complete medical care including, pre-hab, body work, tissue prep, injury prevention, acute injury management, and recovery. Lead by a team of Doctors of Physical Therapy that are dual credentialed as Certified Strength and COnditioning specialists; our rehab and medical staff blend seamlessly with the performance demands of each Quarterback. Each therapist has an extensive background and speciality in the management and care of the throwing athlete.

Recovery, Yoga & Massage

Planned hot yoga sessions, sports massage, and weekly recovery tissue work is included. Additional sessions are also available upon request throughout the prep period.

Each day will have a focus on a specific characteristic of NFL Quarterback demands: acceleration, agility, reactivity, and top-end speed to enhance quarterbacks’ on-field performance. Our training also targets in-the-pocket abilities, enhancing quarterbacks’ elusiveness and explosiveness, and developing the ability to extend plays to make off-platform throws downfield or pick up more first downs with their legs.

We use plyo drills based specifically to the rotational or speed demands of the quarterback, as well as drills tailored to improving the movement patterns recognized on the assessment, motion capture, and throwing sessions. Plyo routines can help improve sequencing, kinetic chain force production, arm speed, velocity, spin rate, and/or accuracy.

Overview

We have trained professional athletes from a multitude of sports by reverse engineering the unique demands of their sport and adapting the athletes unique performance profile to these demands, in order to build out customized programs. Will Hewlett

  • Will Hewlett provides both in-house and on-field throwing sessions focusing on QB mechanical improvement, biomechanical efficiency and skill transfer. He focuses on a non-linear constraint lead approach to teaching new motor skills as it pertains to QB development, decision making, accuracy and field based improvements. Will serves as our Director of Quarterback Development and works hand in hand with our performance and medical staff on all our professional and college QBs.
